The Valmont Drive-In Theatre

Hughes Brook, Bay of Islands

Today the giant screen and foundation to of the projector building is all that remains of the Valmont Drive-In Movie Theater located near the community of Hughes Brook in the Bay of Islands. The Drive-In operated from the mid 70s to the mid 80s. It was built by Jack O'Brien, a local businessman from Curling and was possibly owned by Willis French.

The Valmont Drive-In is another one of those places with very little recorded history. Most of this information came from local stories from people who lived in the area. There may be very little left on site but it provides a rare opportunity to see the enormous screens that were once used in the slowly diminishing Drive-In movie theaters.
